The future of space exploration

Space Shuttle Discovery came back from the 39th mission providing aid to the space station and giving humanity the hope that one day we would live outside planet Earth. Now Discovery is retired like an old gentleman that has many stories to tell to future generations, but who is willing to listen?
It is hard for people to understand the importance of space and all its depth, so hard it hurts people's brain. What is that hold mankind from reaching outside our limits? Stupidity for once and also the great ignorance that everybody old and passes to others.
The need for a solid and concrete solution is required because it is imperative that we do not fall behind all these decades of space conquests where people lost their life in order to give us a better chance to go where others haven't. Planets and moons surfaces await us to unlock all those secrets that the universe gave us to wonder about and if we don't continue now we risk to be stuck in a situation where science is not longer important.
The next step of space exploration is for now made of unmanned project that will serve only to assist the international space station with its needs. It is not sure if it is a step forward into space, or if it' s a temporary set back into the space program that NASA is badly handling for the last thirty years.
